One of the skills I really wanted to touch up at Camp was my ring muscle ups. I had attempted the uprise method several times in my competitive CrossFit years, but it never really clicked. After 20 minutes and one gymnastics-specific cue from @vanvleetd, I could finally feel a difference in my rise and transition (the “ooooh” says it all 🤩) For most muscle up beginners, the ring row method is much more attainable and sustainable. This is the method that I teach my athletes and will use myself in longer workouts, but it was so fun to finally learn this technique! CrossFit breeds a lot of good - but with good always comes a little bad
CrossFit breeds a lot of good - but with good always comes a little bad. * Intensity is incredible. Intensity breeds results. However - we sometimes have athletes who don’t understand rest. * Without rest - intensity isn’t possible. * It’d be better to take a day off to ensure you can push hard the next day - than force yourself to push on a day where you feel like garbage. * Because of this I see a lot of athletes improperly determining that they need pre-workout or coffee before the later classes. You probably feel lack of energy due to your diet and lack of recovery. * Rather than masking the symptoms of under recovering - get some damn rest. * Am I saying to quit caffeine? Absolutely not. Use it as a performance enhancer. Stop using it as a crutch for intensity - especially if it’s negatively effecting your sleep. Sleep > literally anything else in human existence for recovery.

Why are we so confident
Why are we so confident? * CrossFit breeds confidence. So much so that after doing grueling workouts, learning new skills, and hitting PRs - your brain gets rewired. You stop being scared to try new things. You stop doubting yourself so often. You recognize that the only thing standing between you and your goals is just WORK. * While maybe at times we think we can do more than we are actually capable of… I’d much rather be someone willing to try because I think I can - and fail. Than someone who doesn’t think they can - and never tries at all. * It’s a balance. I’ll find it one day. Or maybe not. Who knows. * In the video is a friend I made at @powermonkeycamp named Ellen! Ellen was hilarious and seemed to enjoy her experience quite a lot! We had many good conversations and shared the idea that we hope to pay back all the kind things others do for us. * Ellen reminded me that: regardless of whether or not you know what you’re doing - do it with confidence, have fun, and enjoy the journey.

This is not a dramatization. * I was trying to figure out a glide kip on this low bar. On the higher bar - it’s not too hard. There’s a ton of room for your kip. On this short bar - your core compression has to be LIT. * After about 7000 attempts Pdog goes: it’s nice to watch you suck at something for once. We all have that one friend I guess I’m Pdogs 😂 * Shoutout to @bimflip for helping me understand what’s going wrong. I’ll probably do an iron cross and a 11 minute handstand by tomorrow? * Who knew the @assaultfitness was good for so many things! * Dave Durante is the freaking man. @powermonkeycamp was my first time ever meeting him and I was blown away. His dedication to coaching, his craft (gymnastics), and the fact that he is still chasing PRs. He CARES deeply about coaching and it showed throughout the weekend. * He took time with me on handstands, bar work, and answered my 420 questions. * My hope is to come back to camp one day and impress him with new gymnastics skills. * If you’re some one who doesn’t care about movement, learning, or growing as an athlete/coach - don’t go to camp. If that doesn’t sound like you - their next camp is Sep 21-27 * Camp consists of: - morning stretches/rucking/paddle boarding - breakfast, lunch, dinner (all prepared for you) - multiple training/skill sessions a day - fun activities - lectures - recovery options - so many interesting people * Well worth the investment and any CrossFit L3’s out there - you also get 32 CEU’s and the completion of camp. 👀

I don’t think words can properly express the impact of so much laughter, learning, and joy, that I’ve shared with so many (former!) strangers this week. Alex was 14 the first time he came to Power Monkey Camp
Alex was 14 the first time he came to Power Monkey Camp.
 He didn’t grow up with a father figure. But at 13 he stepped into the gym at 206 South and met Zach. For the first time he had someone who finally provided him stability and loved him for who he was. 
There’s a photo from his first camp. At the time, Zach was showing him wrestling drills he didn’t even understand yet. It’s 4 years later and next year Alex is heading to college to wrestle. “By no stretch am I a special kid,” he says. “This guy does this for so many kids. I see it every single day. I see kids smile when they see him, and I see him smile back. He’s always happy to give a hug and a helping hand — and the truth is, more kids need that.” — @206south is a partner of the Power Monkey Education Foundation.
