This extended the window for muscle repair and enhanced overnight recovery. Compared to placebo, pre-sleep protein: ✅ Increased muscle-building activity by ~22% overnight ✅ Shifted the body from breaking down muscle to building muscle (a positive protein balance) ✅ Kept muscle repair going all night during the usual fasting period In contrast, smaller doses of protein typically stimulate muscle repair for only ~4 hours—highlighting how 40g of slow-digesting protein like casein optimally supports overnight recovery. But IF it’s not realistic to avoid processed foods at upcoming summer BBQs, birthday parties, and picnics, there are better-for-you options. That’s why I recommend better processed swaps that cut out the worst offenders: 🚫 High-fructose corn syrup 🚫 Artificial dyes and sweeteners 🚫 Inflammatory oils These ingredients can wreak havoc on your gut, metabolism, and even your brain, problems that are especially concerning for growing kids. Important note: These are still processed foods, so they aren’t perfect—but they’re a much better choice when whole, real food isn’t an option.
