Deodorant: Aluminum compounds in antiperspirants can clog pores and have been associated with neurological effects and possible breast cancer risks. Lotion: Parabens, used as preservatives in many lotions, can mimic estrogen and disrupt hormonal function. Shampoo: Phthalates, often hidden in synthetic fragrances, are linked to hormone disruption, developmental issues, and fertility problems. Body Wash: Fragrance (often listed vaguely) may contain undisclosed chemicals that can trigger allergies, skin irritation, and hormone disruption.

part 3 - what swaps do you want to see next? it’s crazy that just swapping 3 of these products means you are eating 67% less ingredients!!! read your ingredient labels 🙌🏻 ✅ look for less than 10 ✅ whole food ingredients (i.e. cassava > tapioca) ✅ check the first ingredient (majority of what you are actually eating) ✅ check the last few ingredients (usually where a lot of questionable / artificial ingredients are) you should hold packaged food to a higher standard watch out for: ❌ non organic chickpeas, oats, corn, wheat which contain glyphosate ❌ seed / vegetable oils, they are cheap filler at best and at worst highly inflammatory ❌ sugar science like artificial sweeteners (sucrlaose) and sugar alcohols which disrupt your gut health ❌ non nutritive additives like artificial/natural flavors and artificial colors, designed to drive cravings and appeal to kids leading to over eating.

bad day to be a fake froot loop and a not so lucky charm 👀 this is huge and puts all big food companies on notice, especially those serving our schools - i’m hearing end of 2026 but hopefully they can move more quickly. no specifics on what food dyes but most likely: red 3 & 40, blue 1 & 2, yellow 5 & 6, and green 3. with maybe titanium dioxide included as well. there is no reason for artificial food dyes to be in our food - they serve no nutritional function, they are strictly used bc kids like them and they are cheap.

your medicine cabinet is a sneaky spot for questionable additives like artificial dyes, artificial preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and other questionable ingredients. check ingredient labels to make sure your “medicine” is doing more good than harm. fortunately there are some great clean brands that use the same effective active ingredient without the all the questionable additives for both adults and kids. what swaps do you want to see next?

spring clean - low tox swaps part 1 ⬇️ a good rule of thumb is to always seek stainless steel or glass swaps especially for appliances that get hot. start with high use items and find what works for you and look at swapping when your current options start to show signs of wear (chips, scratches, etc.) always hand wash plastic and do not put in dishwasher. nothing is “zero tox” so figure out your balance. ✅ choose stainless steel or glass: opt for appliances with food-contact surfaces made of stainless steel or borosilicate glass to avoid plasticizers like BPA, BPS, or phthalates, which can leach into food, especially when heated. ❌ plastics: polycarbonate and PVC plastics in appliances can release endocrine-disrupting chemicals. if plastic is unavoidable, ensure it’s BPA-free and not in direct contact with food or heat, replace at signs of wear. 🟡 Ceramic Caution: Ceramic-coated appliances are often non-stick but may contain lead or nanoparticles in glazes. Look for brands with heavy metal testing or stainless steel alternatives. ❌ PFAS and non-stick coatings - ditch PTFE/PFOA (Teflon): non-stick coatings like Teflon can release toxic fumes when heated above 260°C, linked to health issues like hormone disruption and cancer. ✅ choose PFAS-free air fryers, waffle makers, or toaster ovens with stainless steel or ceramic interiors. 🟡 check accessories: ensure bundled accessories (e.g., air fryer baskets) are PTFE/PFOA-free or made of stainless steel. a lot of products advertise “stainless steel” but it’s actually just aesthetic and not functional. what swaps do you want to see next?
