Inhabiting the Stable by architect David BARD (@david__bard) An apartment has been created within the rural section of a 1930s farmhouse in Praz-Pury. The project engages with the original typology of Fribourg farmhouses, where living spaces and farm functions coexisted under one roof. The former fourragère, once used for feeding livestock and storing hay, now houses the living areas, while bedrooms and the bathroom are placed in one of the old stables. The second stable continues to serve its original role for the owner’s horses, and the roof space remains dedicated to hay storage. New walls in exposed terracotta brick mark the intervention, differentiated in scale from the original masonry. Material choices such as trowelled screed floors and a kitchen built from formwork panels evoke the utilitarian character of farm architecture while maintaining a sense of continuity with the building’s history.
