Me and my dad went to the May Day rally in Princeton today. This one felt a little more overstimulating to me than the last one so we only stayed for about a half hour (I kept thinking of that sign “it’s so bad even the introverts are here” lol) but I’m glad we participated. A rude student told me to “get an education, babe” as she was walking by, and it was so discouraging. I didn’t say anything in reply, just started sweating and feeling all kinds of emotions. I wanted to tell her about the children who have died because USAID funding was pulled, and the funding cuts to programs that help 9/11 first responders, and all the small businesses that are closing because of the tariffs, and the children who are terrified that ICE agents will come and take their parents away forever. But I just stood there, shocked. I feel like if you are paying any attention at all, you know how bad things are getting. How could you not? But so many people still either aren’t seeing what’s happening, or don’t care, or maybe both. I don’t know. The last year has left me so disillusioned with people in so many ways, but I need to look past the rudeness and instead pay attention to all the people who cared enough to come out today and stand in solidarity with everyone who is hurting and scared right now. There was one - one! - person who was nasty to me, but at least a couple hundred people who were gathered together out of a sense of community, caring, and love. Hopefully there are more of us who care. I have to believe that.

My very last outlet restock is coming your way in May! I’ll be opening my shop up to patrons first and then I’ll open it up to everyone else. I also have about 2 dozen one of a kind bags and samples that I’m going to be putting on ebay after my restock is over. And then that’s it! No more bags ☹️ Obviously the situation with the knock-offs has been very demoralizing. It’s made me feel very hopeless, and my bags don’t bring me the joy that they used to. *BUT* the ~3 years that I was selling these bags and constantly getting messages from people with health conditions who were aided by this bag were SO wonderful. I never advertised it directly as such, but I created this design because I was trying to stay mega-hydrated and recover from two very serious bouts of c-diff. It was such a personal project for me, and when it started selling and people started reaching out to tell me that they also found it useful for their own health needs it was just so rewarding. I just got my first @nuuly box in the mail! I put on some weight in the last year and thought rather than investing in a bunch of new clothes I’d just try subscribing to a rental box for a bit! I really like 5 out of the 6 things I got in my box (not super fond of the sweater vest in the last outfit - it feels too boxy to me!) and I’m going to get a ton of wear out of these this month. Have you ever tried a clothing subscription? I tried one years ago and wasn’t super fond of it but I like the selection here a lot better! I saw a video with this audio the other day and was like 🤯 there is a word for one of my favorite parts of the day!! I hurkle durkle daily, usually after I feed Arrietty her breakfast i’ll climb back into bed for a bit and give myself about 30-40 minutes before I start my day for real. Anyone else using arts and crafts as a way to cope this year? 🙋🏼♀️ When I stopped selling my purses in December I knew I wanted to use my time to get back to my roots of making things from scratch, since that era of my life made me feel more like I was a business owner and less like I was an artist. But between AI and all the bad news constantly coming from DC, I’ve also been using art as a coping mechanism. Both as a way to channel my frustrations into something positive, and as a way to detach and lose myself in the act of creating for a bit. Anyway, I kept thinking about all that and made this sticker so it’s in the shop if anyone else is also crafting through the horrors 💕

I was going through my camera roll and found this video I made last year that I never posted. My dad helped me film it and wasn’t exactly getting the *vision* I had in mind so I let it collect dust in my phone, but then I moved and this “board of directors” wall doesn’t even exist anymore, so I’m glad that I have this silly little documentation of it. I actually came up with the idea after watching the movie Air (the Ben Affleck movie about Nike, lol) and thought it would be so goofy to make a board of directors wall for my office where every photo was me. The reality of course is that when you have a small business you’re never truly doing it alone - my mom helps me with my emails, my brother helped me pack up all of my purses when I was still selling them, and my dad takes my packages to the post office for me (along with his own, since I’m a second generation small business owner!) #smallbusinessowners #smallbusiness #shopsmall #fyp #foryou #etsyseller

A little before + after of my kitchen! Everything I did here was rental friendly- like 90% of this room is covered in contact paper lol 😂 I even put contact paper on the walls before I attached my peel-and-stick backsplash so it’ll be easier to remove when the time comes (it’s plain white hexagon tile that I covered with pink and yellow vinyl shapes that I cut on my cricut!)
