Mom, what’s your story? DIY Journal 📔 ❤️ . . Another fave from today’s segment. . . T H E I N S P I R A T I ON: . This DIY craft is special to me because it was also inspired by my mom. . I’ve shared a little bit of my caregiver journey days on here taking care of my mom who had dementia. . And if you know anything about dementia, the most heart breaking and traumatic part is the memory loss. Experiencing your loved one forget things and even who you are sometimes is devastating. . Well it was to me, which left me NOT knowing parts of my mom’s life story. . . I created journal along with a few prompts for Jaela to ask me to document my story for her. This also helps her to learn more about me and its chance to connect and bond, laugh and maybe even cry lol. . But I thought it was dope and wanted to include this. . . Materials used: . 📕 - Plain journal . 🖊️ Paper and marker to write prompts (you can create your own however you’d like ) . 🎨 Paint . 💎 Jewels . This time of the year is so triggering for me. Last month was my mom’s death anniversary month, and Sunday is Mother’s Day. . In spite of, I am extremely grateful for every memory I get to make as a mom, while inspiring others to do the same. . . Then there are many people like me, who are moms but have loss their moms. 🙏🏾 . Doing an ART activity is a great tool for bonding, processing grief and even a stress reliever. . For me creating around this time is a great way for me to process my grief, while also reminiscing on memories with my own daughter, and creating new ones! . . This DIY picture frame craft was perfect! I chose some of may favorite memories with Jaela and I and made this super cute inexpensive piece of decor❤️ . . Mindful Masterpeaces 🎨 sessions were a hit at the Can We Talk Mental Health Youth Symposium by Taraji P Hensons non profit The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation 💚 . We went over color meanings, the importance of self expression and exploring beginner wearable art techniques, while sipping on fresh pressed juice 🧃 from @infinitelynatural.llc ❤️ . I also gifted each participant a custom CL coloring sheet and crayons 🖍️ 🖍️ . . I was inspired to create sessions that were focused on the benefits of ART over the end product. and to expose the youth to a new skill they can add to their mental wellness toolbox. . The creative release, the talent I saw in every session, the vibe but most importantly the PURPOSE was EVERYTHING ‼️‼️ . . They didn’t want to leave and wanted to take the sessions over and over again 🥹🙏🏾 . . BIG THANK YOU @tarajiphenson and the @blhensonfoundation team.
