ONE TREE, THREE CITIES A single Yoshino cedar tree from Nara Prefecture, transformed into fixtures without waste for NONFICTION. The cedar tree began its journey with NONFICTION in the summer of 2024 at the Kyoto BAL popup. The interior elements, born from root, branch, and trunk, preserved the treeโ€™s natural grain and presence. In the fall of 2024, the same tree took on new life at NONFICTIONโ€™s Shinjuku City NEWoMan popup. The wood fixtures from Kyoto were reimagined in subtle, refined ways. For both popups, the pieces were designed to remain as close as possible to the treeโ€™s natural form, honoring its original character and essence. Now, in spring 2025, the treeโ€™s journey continues in a permanent home: NONFICTIONโ€™s Osaka Hankyu Umeda store. For this store, the tree was divided into smaller parts and reassembled using kigumi (ๆœจ็ต„), a traditional Japanese woodworking technique that joins wood without nails or metal fittings. This method involves intricately carving and fitting wood pieces together, creating a durable and resilient structureโ€”symbolic of the treeโ€™s natural form and journey.
