ONE TREE, THREE CITIES A single Yoshino cedar tree from Nara Prefecture, transformed into fixtures without waste for NONFICTION. The cedar tree began its journey with NONFICTION in the summer of 2024 at the Kyoto BAL popup. The interior elements, born from root, branch, and trunk, preserved the tree’s natural grain and presence. In the fall of 2024, the same tree took on new life at NONFICTION’s Shinjuku City NEWoMan popup. The wood fixtures from Kyoto were reimagined in subtle, refined ways. For both popups, the pieces were designed to remain as close as possible to the tree’s natural form, honoring its original character and essence. Now, in spring 2025, the tree’s journey continues in a permanent home: NONFICTION’s Osaka Hankyu Umeda store. For this store, the tree was divided into smaller parts and reassembled using kigumi (木組), a traditional Japanese woodworking technique that joins wood without nails or metal fittings. This method involves intricately carving and fitting wood pieces together, creating a durable and resilient structure—symbolic of the tree’s natural form and journey. See the final evolution of a single Yoshino cedar tree—transformed across form, space, and time—at NONFICTION’s permanent Osaka store in Hankyu Umeda. 奈良県から伐採された一本の吉野杉が、ノンフィクションのために無駄なく什器へと生まれ変わりました。 この杉は、2024年夏に開催されたノンフィクションの京都BALポップアップでその旅を始めました。根、枝、幹から生まれたインテリア要素は、木が持つ本来の木目や存在感をそのまま残しています。 2024年秋には、同じ杉がノンフィクションの新宿NEWoManポップアップにて新たな命を吹き込まれました。京都で使用された木製什器は、さりげなく洗練された形で再構築されています。 両ポップアップにおいて、什器は木本来の姿にできる限り近づけてデザインされ、その木の持つ個性と本質を尊重しました。 そして2025年春、この木の旅は新たな拠点へと続きます。ノンフィクション 阪急うめだ本店にて、ついに常設店舗として根を下ろします。この店舗では、木を小さなパーツに分割し、釘や金具を使わずに木材を組み上げる伝統的な日本の木工技法「木組(きぐみ)」を用いて再構築しました。この技法は、木材同士を精巧に彫刻し組み合わせることで、強くしなやかな構造を作り上げます。木の本来の姿とその旅路を象徴するような手法です。 一本の吉野杉がかたち、空間、時間を超えて変容する——その最終章を、ノンフィクション 阪急うめだ本店でぜひご覧ください。
