I saw a lot of people doing this viral trend with their sweet children, but as I thought about recreating it, I realized that’s not what I’m forgetting. Yes, I can get so caught up in the everyday to-dos that I forget to slow down and soak in the moments I’ve been given. But what I really, REALLY have trouble remembering is that, as wonderful as family is, it’s not what I was created for. I was created for union with God. That’s what sustains me and fulfills me. Receiving His love is how I am changed, and as I’m being transformed, I’m becoming a better mom and wife (and business owner and daughter and neighbor and human). I forget that I have a Heavenly Father who has extravagant affection and incredible love for me, and that I have access to Him every moment of the day. I forget that union with Him gives me power to overcome, to be patient, to have joy that transcends understanding. I forget that my allegiance is no longer to this world. I forget that my true identity is a child of God. I forget that I was created for this relationship, and when I root myself in it, I naturally radiate His goodness and give others a picture of who He is and how He loves. I forget that life on this earth is short, but eternity is not. I forget to anchor my heart to things that will last. And because we are so prone to forget, it helps to have habits that bring us back. Brent and I started doing this morning prayer with our kids before he begins homeschool and I go down to the basement to work. At first it felt a little clumsy, but now the day feels off if we miss it. I desperately want a strong family. Regular connection with God - constantly recognizing we need Him to do this day well, being filled with His love to the point that it overflows to others - that’s where our strength comes from.
