Since our entire business revolves around growing and raising what we use in our skincare and “farmacy” line- this time of year is SUPER busy in the gardens, with the land, out foraging, growing, and cultivating what we need to last us the ENTIRE year to make and sell what we need to sustain ourselves throughout the rest of the seasons. • Which involves a LOT of diligent work harvesting and preserving the plants so that we will have access to them year around! • Right after the herb is picked or harvested, often the next step is to get the product dried- unless it’s going into a tincture or glycerite- then I just sink the fresh herb right in! Voila! 😉 • But, more often than not, I dry. • For years I spent dehydrating or hang drying our plants and herbs. But for the last few years- I’ve almost exclusively turned to my most favorite and worthwhile investment for our business and farm- our @harvest_right freezedryer. • For a few major reasons I’ve pointed out before- the color and smell and integrity of the plant is preserved (if stored properly) for up to 25 years! • And this matters not just to me (because it does…NOTHING beats cracking a jar open of freeze dried lemon balm in the dead of winter and the smell slams you in the face with that summery citrus vibrancy) • You 👏 can’t 👏 achieve 👏 that 👏 with 👏 any 👏 other 👏 preservation 👏 method! • And beyond this method appealing to our senses- more important than that- the medicinal qualities are preserved at the highest rate this way as well- and as an herbalist- THIS IS KEY!!! • I’ve been sharing what I’ve been freeze drying and foraging for in our stories since April- and if you ever want to know what’s coming in our drops and restocks-our stories are about the closest thing there is to get some clues of what’s in season and about to drop! • I’ve also freeze dried more- like dandelions, mullein leaves, St. John’s wort, basil, cilantro, lemon balm, lemongrass, and more- but I had to stop somewhere with this reel! 🤣🙌 • I’m going to add a few SIMPLE recipes using these herbs to get you started in the comments below! • And, like always- you can always purchase these goods from www.wcfmarket.com too! ☺️
