Most of us are no stranger to #stjohnswort! • It’s so popular, because it’s easy to #forage, and usually readily available. • It can be #sustainably #harvested or #cultivated in a #garden! • And since it’s in season, I thought I’d chat a bit more about this amazing super #flower! • St. John’s wort is a shrubby plant with clusters of yellow flowers that have oval, elongated petals. • The plant gets its name because it is often in full bloom around June 24, the day traditionally celebrated as the birthday of John the Baptist. • And boy! It’s in season right now! • Both the flowers and leaves are used as medicine! • And this #oil I’m #decanting today, is actually created with dried St. John’s Wort from last year, and then it was submerged in a high quality, organic olive oil. • I have fresh St.John’s Wort that is currently drying, now, that will be turned into #tinctures, #salves, #oils, and #balms for later and throughout the off-season year! • I just love having access to #medicinal plants year around, and to do that, you have to dry your flowers and herbs right after harvesting them during growing season! • St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) has a history of use as a medicine dating back to ancient Greece, where it was used for a range of illnesses, including various nervous disorders. • St. John’s wort also has antibacterial, antioxidant, and antiviral properties! • Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it has been applied to the #skin to help heal wounds and burns. • And since I deal with mainly #naturalskincare-let’s focus mainly on the topical benefits of #stjohnswort ! • It’s Latin name means to ward off evil spirits. • The flowering part of the plant was #infused in carrier oils and used as a balm for all kinds of ills. • When applied topically, St. John Wort: Calms the irritated and inflamed skin. Reduces aches and pains. Heals bruised and damaged skin. Antiseptic for dressing wounds. You can easily make a St. John’s Wort oil yourself, by simply submerging your dried herb into a good quality carrier oil yourself and just waiting a few months! • Check out our YouTube video today showing you how! - - - #foraging #herbs
