When I think back on this school year, it was kinda a messy one. My well-made plans were interrupted by an injury and surgery. I couldn’t get to some of the unit studies I wanted to. Many days I wondered if they were learning anything… but looking back, I realize it was a deep and rich school year, even in the mess. Here are some things I don’t regret. Not every one of them look “productive” on paper. Some meant slowing down, changing the plan, just picking up a good read aloud, or saying yes when no would have been much easier. But this year reminded me that a meaningful education is about so much more than finishing every lesson. It’s also the stories we shared, the interests they discovered, the friendships they formed, the hard seasons we walked through together, and the courage they watched me have to keep pursuing the things God placed on my heart too.
