After nearly a decade of homeschooling I have learned that just about every single school year something comes up in our lives that makes me feel “derailed” from all my wonderful plans before we started the school year. A long bout of sickness, family crisis, having a baby, moving, the list goes on… Whenever I feel like homeschooling feels heavy and I am falling short, I keep coming back to these reminders: 1. This season is small in the grand scheme of their whole education. This moment doesn’t define their entire learning journey- it’s just one chapter. There is so much time ahead for growth, catching up, and all the themed unit studies and field trips. 2. They are still learning so much, even if it doesn’t look like what I planned. Learning isn’t limited to checklists or perfectly executed plans. They are absorbing life skills, emotional awareness, curiosity, and resilience in ways that matter just as much, if not more, than anything I had scheduled. 3. Growth is still happening in the quiet, slower days. In the conversations. In the rest. In the healing. Even when it feels like not much is happening, so much is unfolding beneath the surface. These slower, quieter days are building connection, security, and deep roots that will support everything else later on. If you’re in a hard or unexpected season, you’re not alone.
