Not every Soldier fights on the front lines. Some make sure those on the front lines have everything they need to fight. For more than 17 years, SSG Quitman M. Castillo, U.S. Army, dedicated his life to serving his country, including two tours in Vietnam. Born on December 19, 1939, in Sledge, Mississippi, SSG Castillo served as a 76P Stock Control Supplyman, a critical role responsible for ensuring ammunition, fuel, equipment, and essential parts reached the Soldiers who depended on them. During the Vietnam War, he completed two tours of duty, serving from April 1968 to April 1969 and again from December 1970 to April 1972. Behind every military operation is a network of Soldiers whose work makes the mission possible. SSG Castillo was one of those Soldiers, helping keep supplies moving where they were needed most. Over his 17 and a half years of dedicated service, he earned several military decorations, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, and four Good Conduct Medals. On April 13, 2000, SSG Castillo passed away from health complications at the age of 60. Today, we have the Honor of remembering his service through a Til Valhalla Project memorial plaque. His story reminds us that every role matters, every sacrifice deserves recognition, and every Fallen Hero deserves to be remembered.
