My latest feature in LENS Magazine is on how I photographically recorded Japan’s magnificent Nagano Prefecture, a place I have had the good fortune to work in numerous times. This includes documenting the section of the Nakasendo, one of two historic routes that connected Kyoto with Edo (now Tokyo) that passes through Nagano, hiking in the Japanese Alps, staying at magnificent ryokans (Japanese style inns) and bathing in their sublime onsen (hot springs). Nagano is also home to Jigokudani (Hell Valley), where Japanese macaques also indulge in meditative bathing in the magical waters.
