Details Matter - The Vala’s Battery System Why is the 600Wh + 250Wh configuration the best option for overall ride quality? Because it provides optimal handling when you want it, and more range when you need it. Thanks to improved Bosch battery cell technology, the new high-density PowerTube 600w battery allows us to make respectably light, supreme handling, full-power ebike in the 47.3lb range. And while we think the Vala, as it sits, has plenty enough range for your average daily 2-3hr rides, we know that some riders want, or need, more juice for longer excursions, so the Vala has an optional 250 Wh PowerMore range extender to boost your total battery capacity to 850 Wh. Why not just use the 800 Wh internal battery? We value handling, and trail manners above all. And the PowerTube 800 weighs a full 900 grams / 2 pounds more than the 600. That’s a whole lot of weight to add in the event you might need it for some rides. But if you do the Vala’s 600 Wh + PowerMore 250 Wh gives you 50 watts more than the internal 800. More range is there if you want it. The 800 internal battery is also wider than the 600, which means we would have to build the carbon frame structure around that battery to a larger diameter, increasing the frame structure weight, and changing the Vala’s sleek profile to one with a more big & bulky downtube shape. And even though aesthetics is not the most important part of our design goals, it is something we care about. There’s a whole lot of thought that goes into what sometimes seems like simple decisions. But there are always the details that matter to accommodate for.
