भित्ति चित्र (wall paintings) from Raw Mango pays homage to ancient art across Rome and the Indian subcontinent. The collection brings together references from the Ajanta Caves in Maharashtra, Garh Palace in Bundi and Roman frescoes that used architecture as a site of storytelling—telling complex stories using paint, sculpture and carving. Celestial figures share the frame with the subcontinent's ancient flora and fauna, blending fantasy with architecture and geometry. A load-bearing angel that has held up ancient temple walls for centuries is reinterpreted holding up a sari. The courtiers of Rajasthan, preserved in Bundi's frescoes, come to life once again as characters across the collection's visual storytelling. The colours of the collection draw from the palette of frescoes which were originally created using natural pigments derived from minerals. Hues of past collections are revisited here in hushed tones—transitioning from vibrant to muted—swapping out bottle green for a light jade, and dusty lychee. Chrome yellow, earthy red, deep mural green, black and midnight blue round out the collection's restrained yet rich visual language. Textiles seen here range from Varanasi brocades, silk, velvet, to wool and canvas. The appearance of frescoes coincide with the peak of empires. The technique was commonly used during the early 1st and 2nd centuries, and developed in parallel in places that were seen as worlds apart. These frescoes told stories and myths deemed too important to forget.
