The lying preacher curl was my OG solution to challenging the biceps at a longer muscle lengths before it was even a thing. I think this particular video is from 2020, showcasing the @primefitnessusa adjustable preacher curl. IMO it is still perhaps the most overall “best” exercise for this if you’re considering practicality and stability as well. Yes there are exercises that extend the shoulder further, but you could argue that the biceps really don’t lengthen much as the arm goes behind the body and most of that motion comes from the scapula moving. Yes I have come up with single arm variations that are fully stretched and stable, but it is hard to argue against the practicality of this exercise that very close to ticking off all the things we would like in a good hypertrophy exercises. The word “Illegal” here, is a joke aimed at people that are critical of using external stability on arm exercises. This exercise I imagine draws far less criticism because people are already familiar with a Scott/preacher curl. What do you guys think? Would Larry Scott love my use of his bench?
