Did you know? Well-formulated chemical exfoliants do not damage skin's barrier. Research has shown that AHA & BHA can actually strengthen skin's barrier! 💪 If an exfoliant ISN’T properly formulated to be gentle, that’s another story. 👎 You’ll know it’s not going to be gentle if you see high amounts of harsh/drying forms of alcohol, menthol that makes skin tingle or fragrance (whether synthetic or natural) included in its ingredient list. The pH of your exfoliant is equally important, with an optimal range between 3 & 4 for safe, effective use. 🧪 Using highly acidic or highly alkaline products can cause a significant disruption in skin’s barrier. This is how some exfoliants on the market can cause trouble for skin. Last but not least, concentration matters. 🌟 For regular use & normal concerns (think daily or every few days depending on your skin’s needs & tolerance), AHAs are generally recommended in concentrations from 5-10%. For BHA (salicylic acid), 1-2% is considered best for regular use. Let us know if you have any questions!
