It’s Reece’s birthday week and this year we’re doing things a bit different. Dad suggested we should share something special about Reece instead of just books, so today we’re sharing Reece’s redwood with you all. On my first mother’s day after Reece passed away, I learned about bereaved mother’s day and the Owlet Cares x Nursery of Hope program. After signing up, they sent me the tiniest little redwood sapling, so tiny that I was almost too afraid to plant it. A little 10 inch tall starter plant that couldn’t have been more than 1/4 inch thick, but over the past two and half years, it’s grown bigger and bigger. Bits of panic each winter as it loses its needles, but relief as they start to come back each spring. To that end, this tree is starting to get a bit big to stay in the various upsized pots we’ve found. If anyone knows of a way to get it planted at a state park or other protected area, we’d love to be able to watch Reece’s redwood continue to grow and thrive amongst other trees.
