Clash Meets @onlythepoets Whether we catch up with Tommy Longhurst, frontman of Only The Poets, as soon as comes off stage at a London show or whether we join him on a Zoom call the morning after the band have played a gig in Wrocław, Poland, he seems to be in good spirits and bubbling with energy. As we speak, Longhurst is looking forward to taking their live show on the road to Budapest the next day, as well as Vienna. He describes the experience of having played five shows in six days as “intense” but laughs it off. On this particular occasion, Longhurst is excited to speak about the new era of the band’s music and, as he casually takes a sip of a drink, he tells of the new direction that has “naturally” come about as Only The Poets go from being widely known as an indie band to more recent releases ‘I Keep On Messing It Up’ and ‘You Hate That I’m In Love’ feeling more alt-pop leaning. It may have taken a little while getting to this point but Longhurst is adamant that the band they are now is a band they would have liked to have been fans of when they themselves were growing up. “I feel like we’ve found really what we want to say and we feel like a band we would have loved and a band we always wanted to be.” Tap the link in the bio for the full feature 🔗
