What Is Join-Up? Developed by Monty Roberts, Join-Up is about establishing a connection with a horse through body language and psychological cues. During Join-Up, the human mimics how horses naturally communicate leadership in the wild. After a period of controlled movement, the human watches for signs that the horse is ready to connect. Once those signals appear, the human invites the horse to come in. That’s Join-Up: the horse voluntarily joins the human, signalling trust and acceptance. Join-Up isn’t just a method—it’s a mindset.
