When one of our beloved bee mugs broke, we couldn’t bring ourselves to toss it. Instead, we leaned into something beautiful - kintsugi. Kintsugi, or “golden joinery,” is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery using lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Rather than hiding the cracks, it honors them highlighting each line as part of the piece’s story, a reflection of wabi-sabi…finding beauty in imperfection and impermanence. We didn’t have gold on hand, but we had color. So we pieced her back together in our own way. And somehow, she feels even more special now.
