I was commissioned a few months ago to do a large mural in the Rockefeller center. One of the greatest collections of Art Deco in the world and the home to SNL. It was important to me to make something that felt in line with the other works in the building (which are monumental and made by heroes of mine) I was adamant not to compromise on the integrity of what I would be putting next to them. This design you see here was just a study for what was to be a 30ft wide 9 panel painted installation. (I wanted to do a relief sculpture or mosaic but the client was super short on time) I gave them a few more options that felt true to the building but they ended up changing directions completely halfway through the process. C’est la vie. Diego Rivera also made a mural for that building that was never exhibited, although for other reasons altogether. 🌞
