Jav and I took salsa lessons for about six months leading up to our wedding. We really gave it our all, and that night, in front of our family and friends, we unveiled our dance. About three-quarters of the way through, his cuff link got tangled in my hair. We couldn’t move and when we couldn’t untangle ourselves, both of our mothers walked onto the dance floor to help free us. Sadly, the videographer edited that part out, but it remains one of our favorite moments from the night. The village, the mothers, the witnesses…stepping in to untangle us so we could keep dancing. The unseriousness of it bringing the perfect comedy relief to our earnest seriousness. Twenty years later, stilllll dancing, and sometimes tangling-laughing at ourselves. And still would be impossible with out our people to keep us moving. ❤️
