This summer, Materia founder Sarah Len and photographer @marahoffman set out through California, following a question that has long been central to Materia: how does place shape creative practice, and how does the way we create shape the way we live? The journey took us from Inn Paradiso in Paso Robles to Ido Yoshimoto’s studio and the JB Blunk House with Mariah Nielson in Inverness, and finally to Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur. Across four stops, we spent time with artists, makers, and places where the boundaries between landscape, material, architecture, and daily life begin to disappear. The result is Creative Landscapes: California, a series of conversations, photographs, and films exploring the environments that shape creative lives and the lives that, in turn, shape those environments. Follow the series on Materia.
