Designed in 1946 by Finn Juhl and produced by Bovirke, the BO55 sofa reflects the early development of Juhl’s sculptural approach to seating—where form is shaped as much by negative space as by structure. Juhl, trained as an architect, approached furniture as a series of independent, organic forms rather than strict functional components. Unlike many of his Danish contemporaries, he rejected visible structural logic in favor of expressive silhouettes, often separating upholstered elements from their frames to create a sense of lightness and movement. The BO55 sits within this early period, where influences from modern art and biomorphic design begin to fully emerge. Photography: @varneyphoto
