As is so often the case the January storms arrived with intensity in Japan this year. After nearly two feet of snow accumulated overnight I assumed the morning pictured would be the deepest of the trip. How wrong was I when a few days later a deepening low pressure cell dropped 150cm’s of new snow in a little over 24 hours across parts of the Nagano prefecture. A crazy amount of snow to receive in one hit and the single biggest snowfall I’ve witnessed first hand. Can it snow too much? Some terrain was off limits until the snowpack settled and local residents faced a daunting task clearing homes and villages of snow. As the seasons shift Spring has arrived early across Japan in recent weeks.
