The master weavers of Kanchipuram interpret these botanical forms in a uniquely stylised and elemental way, reflecting the grammar of the kanjivaram. From the beloved kamalam (lotus) and manga (mango or paisley) that dot the kanjivaram's body, to the delicate kodi visiri (a floral vine) and thuthiripoo that adorn border and pallu patterns, these traditional motifs lend visual detail as well as a rich symbolism to the drape.
