Another extremely active day for Seaside Heights & Seaside Park water rescue crews. Despite clear skies and warm temps, a 2–4 ft swell brought strong rip currents, catching many off guard. Just as I arrived in town, SHFD responded to their second rescue of the day two victims pulled from the surf within minutes. Throughout the afternoon, I patrolled by drone, scanning for swimmers in distress. I spotted a group being pulled out beyond the break and landed to investigate. As I approached the waterline, bystanders began yelling for help. One swimmer was caught in a rip and rapidly drifting out. I advised them to call 911, grabbed swim fins and a borrowed boogie board, and swam out to assist. I kept the victim calm until SHFD arrived via rescue jetski. Shortly after, a second major incident occurred involving 4–5 individuals clinging to surfboards, one in significant distress. SHFD deployed the ski, conducted multiple victim rescues, and transferred patients to EMS. One was transported to a local hospital for further care. There were probably around 20 swimmer-in-distress calls today alone in Ocean County. Please never enter the water without lifeguards present.
