Did you know America was named after an Italian? 🇮🇹 Amerigo Vespucci was a Florentine explorer whose voyages helped Europeans recognize that the lands across the Atlantic were part of a New World, separate from Asia. In 1507, German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller honored Vespucci by using the name “America” on his world map. More than 500 years later, his name lives on in North America, South America, and the United States of America. Did you know the story behind America’s name?
