I recently returned from a trip across Japan and South Korea with our partners who help spread Harney & Sons, and I came home humbled by what they have built. The shops are not ours. In Japan, our exclusive partner has opened stores under the Harney name across the country, several inside Takashimaya, and most recently a tea salon in Osaka. In Korea, our partner who has imported our teas for nearly twenty years and runs three stores in Seoul. We did not build those businesses. They did, because they believed a tea blended in Millerton, New York, was worth pouring for tea drinkers around the world. In every one of those rooms, the same thing kept happening. There was a cup of our tea being prepared for someone in the middle of their day. That is what everyday luxury is supposed to mean, and it has traveled much further than I sometimes remember. My own work was with the teams on the ground: hosting tea seminars for their customers, brewing Earl Grey Supreme and English Breakfast, walking through how we build a blend as people tasted it for the first time, and what teas make for great pairings at different times of the day. What I am bringing home is simple. The people who pour our tea every day, halfway around the world, care for it the way we do at home here in Millerton. Emeric Harney Harney & Sons
