Howdy y’all. My name is Cole Barba and I am a former 0331 machine gunner. I’ve deployed with V2/4 and V2/5 respectively. I joined the Marine Corps to give myself an opportunity to better myself as a person and support my dream of becoming a professional musician. I’ve struggled throughout my life with anxiety and depression and it’s something I cope with and channel thru my music. Music is the one and only thing that keeps me out of The Black. As of yesterday, the dream has an opportunity to become a reality. Our songs “Sunny Dungeon Blues” and “Not the One” were selected to be apart of Rolling Stone’s Next Top Hitmaker competition. “Sunny Dungeon Blues” is a song I wrote for my younger brother who was experiencing a lot of the same emotions I was and I didn’t know how to talk to him. It’s a song that comes screaming from the bottom of my fucking heart. Winner of the competition receives a chance to play in Central Park to 60,000 people, as well as a $50,000 check. I plan to donate $20k of this to Veterans Mental Health Services if we win. The rest will be going towards making more music. No one deserves to feel like they are alone. Genuinely the only thing I want to do with my life is make music and make people happy.
