“Performing live is creating a moment you can’t replicate — it’s only possible because you’re here and I’m here and the room’s here and the temperature.” — @whoisumi For the first half of her career, Artist UMI was dedicated to perfecting her craft in the studio. She connected more as a recording artist, but these days, she’s embracing the unknown as a performance artist. “I like the studio because you can control it,” she admits. “But I know it’s okay if I can’t control everything and just let go.” Some parts of her performance she just leaves to chance. And her tarot and oracle cards. “I pull cards on what the theme of the show could be, what I want to share, who I want to be, and what I want to embody.” ___ We followed UMI around Los Angeles for the day, as part of our series celebrating creators within the Gap community. Exploring creatives in their element — with a strong point of view, and a strong sense of style. Shot by @gibblegabble
