This is what we do with a bulb lasagne after flowering. Alternatively you can wait until all the leaves have died back naturally and then retrieve your bulbs - this is better if you don’t have borders to plant in and you can store the bulbs over summer to re-plant in pots in autumn instead. It is easier to identify the bulb variety while they still have their leaves and that way you’ll know which are worth re-planting and which aren’t. Most tulips are not perennial and are best discarded, but from this pot we are re-planting all of the perennial bulbs in groups around the garden where they can return next year, including crocuses, hyacinths, botanical tulips, narcissus, iris and muscari.
