This was my dream… 4 years ago I started Fanciful Doll - a romantic, fairytale dresses brand 💖 My aim was to design exceptionally beautiful dresses that made people smile! With zero investment I worked 2 pretty unpleasant jobs, gradually saving up enough funds to start my business. It was a passion. The journey was hard. Harder than I ever thought possible! But I have always been a VERY determined person, and I was happy to make sacrifices as I believed in what I was creating. The business grew… FAST! And I was delighted! ❤️ Delighted to be making more and more princesses feel special and seen. Then on ‘liberation day’ the US government announced tariffs on ALL Chinese made goods coming into the US, starting May 2nd 🇺🇸 We were shocked. But I vowed to support our US customers and was determined to keep our business and prices the same. But as the trade war escalated the tariffs rose to an INSANE 145% 😳!!! Making it completely unfeasible to sell to the US (where most of our customers are). We couldn’t produce these huge gowns in any other country. My brand partner with a small handmade, runway couture factory in China, and to create similar dresses in the UK would be 4-5X the price. Plus our supply team is part of the brand. We won’t abandon them. So many small businesses face this crisis across the globe. The US is by far the biggest market for occasionwear dresses. Since this situation started I have refused to raise our prices. But we simply cannot absorb 145% tariffs for the US.
