Lammas – The Festival of the First Harvest 🌾 At the turn of July and August, when the sun still shines in full strength but the days are slowly growing shorter, the festival of Lammas – also known as Lughnasadh – arrives. It is the first of three harvest festivals in the Wheel of the Year. This is a time to reflect on the gifts of the Earth, our own labor, and the cycle of life. Lammas celebrates the fertility of summer and the first fruits of our efforts – grain heads, the first fruits, herbs, as well as our creativity, which we rooted in spring and which now bears the fruits of our labor. In pagan and Wiccan traditions, it is a time of gratitude, celebration of abundance, and a conscious farewell to the light that is slowly beginning to wane. One of the most beautiful traditions is baking bread from the first grain – a symbol of blessing, abundance, and transformation. Grain becomes flour, flour becomes bread – something dies so that something else may live. This natural cycle teaches us humility, gratitude, and connection to the Earth 🥖 Lammas is not only about the fields and the harvest, but also about our inner world.
