Lammas – The Festival of the First Harvest 🌾 At the turn of July and August, when the sun still shines in full strength but the days are slowly growing shorter, the festival of Lammas – also known as Lughnasadh – arrives. It is the first of three harvest festivals in the Wheel of the Year. This is a time to reflect on the gifts of the Earth, our own labor, and the cycle of life. Lammas celebrates the fertility of summer and the first fruits of our efforts – grain heads, the first fruits, herbs, as well as our creativity, which we rooted in spring and which now bears the fruits of our labor. In pagan and Wiccan traditions, it is a time of gratitude, celebration of abundance, and a conscious farewell to the light that is slowly beginning to wane. One of the most beautiful traditions is baking bread from the first grain – a symbol of blessing, abundance, and transformation. Grain becomes flour, flour becomes bread – something dies so that something else may live. This natural cycle teaches us humility, gratitude, and connection to the Earth 🥖 Lammas is not only about the fields and the harvest, but also about our inner world. What did we sow in spring, and what are we reaping now? What can we be grateful for? Take a moment today for a simple ritual to give thanks for the gifts of the Earth: 🕯️ Light a candle as a symbol of light, harvest, and life. 🧘 Take a deep breath and become aware of the present moment. 🙏 Give thanks silently or aloud, and say: “Thank you for all that I have sown, and for what I now reap.” Name 1–3 things you are grateful for today. 🥖 Eat a piece of bread as a mindful act of receiving the gifts of the Earth. If you wish, leave a small piece outside as an offering to nature. ✨ Extinguish the candle. Fairy Wing Cake 🧚🏻 ✨ The delicate little wings are made from rice paper and are so much easier than you’d expect! You can make them any color and shape you’d like! Plus, it’s another fun way to get the kiddos involved in baking and decorating! Method for rice paper wing: 🪽 Fill a large bowl with warm water. 🪽Submerge the rice papers in the warm water until completely softened. 🪽Place the softened rice paper onto a sheet of parchment paper laid out flat on your counter. Arrange the rice paper into a shape of a wing. For me that was scrunched on one side and wider on the other. 🪽Use food coloring diluted with a few drops of water to paint onto the rice paper while still wet. 🪽Allow to dry overnight. 🪽Place hardened rice paper wrappers into the cake to form wings. The cake is a strawberry kiwi cake and the full instructions can be found in the summer issue of @faeriemagazine ! I just got done with my recipe for their Autumn Cottage Witch issue! Líbila by se Vám podobná edice našich pranostik? Zajímavé je, že jsme jeden z mála států, kde tato tradice měsíců přetrvala nejspíše již doby Slovanů z 9/10 století.
