Many of metro-Detroit’s most notable buildings are the work of acclaimed architect Albert Kahn. His practice was far-reaching, spanning industrial factories to department stores to personal homes (including that of Cranbrook founders George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth). Our new Birmingham store sits within one such landmark – the historic Wabeek Building built in 1928. Four original columns remain, serving as the starting point for our design approach: an expression of the city’s boom-era heritage paired with its civic-minded elegance, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.
