Our new display, Mineral, is now open. This new free display is a culmination of work from our Design Researchers in Residence – Alfred Yatlong Yeung (@alf.y__), Elise Limon (@eliselimon), Rafael El Baz (@raffaelloelbaz) and Rosa Whiteley (@rosawhiteley). During their residencies, they have been thinking about minerals not as passive resources, but as materials whose extraction has deep social, economic and environmental impacts on local landscapes. Their projects explore what it means to reopen a mine, new applications for waste silica from glass manufacturing, the chalk aquifers that supply millions of people with water in the UK and the long-term implications of copper mining in northern Wales. Commissioned by the museum's national research programme, @futureobservatory, in partnership with @weareukri @ahrcpress, the display asks whether the green transition can be sustained through the continued extraction of finite resources – and how design research can help us navigate the UK's dependence on minerals. Visit the display until 20 September 2026 - head to designmuseum.org to find out more and plan your trip. šŸ“ø Design Researchers in Residence: Mineral Ā© @henrywoide for the Design Museum
