#ArchitectureFriday | Bigger than all of Manhattan, this vast New Mexico ranch includes a series of striking buildings by Japanese architect Tadao Ando 🐎 Completed in the early 2000s for designer and filmmaker Tom Ford, Ando’s contribution forms the architectural heart of Cerro Pelon Ranch. His commission centred on the main residence and equestrian facilities, carefully placed within the expansive desert landscape. The primary house is defined by precise concrete planes and expansive glass, opening onto a reflecting pool that anchors the building to its surroundings. It connects to stables and a dedicated exercise area for Ford’s horses, with circular geometry echoed in both indoor and outdoor riding rings. Water, light and concrete are used with restraint, bringing clarity to the scale of the site.
