Meet your propagation MVP: Sol Soils LECA Balls A premier propagation play (and pretty foolproof!), our LECA Balls help encourage quick and efficient rooting for cuttings. It’s less extreme than true water propagation techniques since it keeps a lot more oxygen available and makes it more or a humid root zone environment than aquatic, plus the porous surface gives the roots something to hold onto. Low effort, high reward — just how plant care should be. What is LECA? LECA stands for Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate — basically, little round clay balls that have been baked and puff up a bit like popcorn to create a super porous finished material. Why it works: Moisture Control: LECA absorbs water and slowly releases it, giving your plant consistent hydration without waterlogging the roots. Just keep about 1/3 of the container filled with water, and change the water every so often (monthly should be just fine). Airflow: They create channels for oxygen if mixed into soil as an amendment that help keep oxygen pathways open to the roots. Root Visibility: In a clear container, you can see your props progress — no guessing when it’s time to pot up. Those roots will be reaching out and tangling through the LECA when it’s ready for soil (or soilless substrates like ours).
