For too long, parents have been asked to navigate pregnancy, birth, and postpartum largely on their own. But raising children was never meant to be a solo endeavor. Strong families require strong villages. To help spark that conversation, @happiest_baby invited a group of women (including @noor, @sophfei, @thedreamawake, @bella_fifi, @dominiquedrakeford, @unconsumingmotherhood, @jazmynedrake, @sophia_roe, @itsginabruno, @alexandrafairweather, @lexivuvu, @celia_ellenberg, and @carlycushnie) to reflect on the people who carried them through pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting: the friends, relatives, neighbors, colleagues, and chosen family who showed up when it mattered most. But this campaign isn’t just about celebrating support. It’s about expanding it. Thank goodness for @alexandrafairweather. When I gave birth in New York during the pandemic, 3,000 miles from one set of parents and 5,000 from the other, we had no village. Everyone had fled and I had ONE friend left in the city. Alexandra became my late-night text person, my “is this normal?” person, and the friend who made motherhood feel lighter. Having even one person you can laugh, cry, vent, and parent alongside means everything. Becoming a mom can be incredibly isolating, especially without family nearby or friends in the same stage of life. There were moments I was scared to leave Lola for 30 seconds just to run to the bathroom. I had intrusive thoughts, anxiety about SIDS/SUID, and truly don’t know how I would’ve slept without SNOO. Looking back, Alexandra and I both realized SNOO was an important part of our village. Not a person, obviously, but a source of support and peace of mind when we desperately needed it.
