Somewhere between the road and the trail, we found the feeling we had been chasing since we were kids. 📸 @fjimz10 The freedom to surf from dawn patrol to sunset. To session skate spots until it was time to go home for dinner. To ride wherever our legs could take us. Back then, the destination barely mattered. The day was about moving, exploring, and being with your people. The ride was the destination. When gravel came along, connecting roads and trails made cycling feel that way again. A familiar road could lead to an unknown trail. A few hours could become the entire day. There was always one more turn worth taking. We weren’t trying to fit into a category. We were following curiosity and letting the ride unfold. The routes were improvised. The bikes were rarely perfect for the job. That was part of what made it feel like freedom. For a few hours, cycling made us feel like kids again. The early gravel events that inspired us carried that same spirit. Connect roads and trails. Do something hard with friends. Build the whole day around the ride. They felt less like a new category of cycling— and more like an invitation to experience it differently. Cycling can be serious. The equipment. The fashion. The idea that there’s a right way to ride, dress, and belong. We weren’t trying to reject any of it. We just wanted to make more room. Room to race in lycra. Room to spend the entire day in a t-shirt. Room to ride hard or slow down, and express yourself however the bike makes you feel free. That was what surfing and skating taught us. Style was personal. Creativity mattered. Belonging came from showing up—not looking the part. The brands and culture we grew up with made surfing and skating feel like more than sports. They became a way of life. And a way to find your people. Thank Gravel It’s Friday was born on the beach and raised in the mountains. California gave us the attitude. Colorado gave us the adventure. By popular demand, and to soften the withdrawal from our daily dose of two-wheeled suffering now that the 2026 Tour de France has wrapped (another emotional rollercoaster, as always), our « The starry ones » kit is now up for pre-order on Giordana’s site. Huge thanks to them for making a slightly ridiculous dream come true: spreading our lack of talent onto a sport we hate a bit less than running. You can now show off as an untalented cyclist with a cap, a jersey (men’s and women’s), bib shorts (men’s and women’s), gloves, and socks. For this month’s coffee ride we’re switching things up! Join @teampeachcycling + Foo Chow on Sunday, July 19th for a morning of climbing out of @incyclebicycles Pasadena. Instead of our usual chill coffee ride, we’re heading into the Angeles for a ride up Clear Creek.
