Last week I finally finished putting together my sampler blocks from the 2025 Riley Blake Designs Quilt Block Challenge. With so many other projects in the works, I just wanted to get this one done, so I went with a simplified layout of 2” wide sashing strips. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Quilting is Squishy Clams by @sewshabbyquilting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Did you know that you can do this too? I love Lori Holt’s mantra of “You are the boss of your own quilt.” This time I decided to just get it done quickly - even if it was more of a simple layout - rather than have another stack of unfinished quilt blocks. 😉 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Started a challenge and only made a handful of blocks? (No shame! I have a bunch of these types of projects!) One of my “works in progress” this summer is playing with precuts. Both projects are being made with precuts - both 5” and 10” - and making half square triangles (HST’s) + hour glass blocks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I recently shared a bunch of tips and tricks for using precuts as well as the shortcut methods I’m using to piece these projects. I’ve been working on this quilt for 17 years. 😅 After hand-appliqueing all of the Orange Peel blocks, they’re finally pieced together. 🙌🏻 I love it! And so excited to be this far! For a full tutorial on my favorite method for Hand Appliqueing these Orange Peel blocks comment Orange and I’ll DM you. 📬 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I *think* I’ve finally chosen the outside borders. I decided I want to emphasize the “low volume” shirtings-feel of the quilt, so I’m going with a white-background-print outside border. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m determined to only use fabric I’ve already got in my stash (because heaven knows I’ve got plenty - especially of reds, whites, and blues). I pulled a bunch out to play with and visualize. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Next step: deciding how to quilt it. After this much handwork already invested, I’m seriously considering hand quilting it to preserve it’s traditional feel. Am I crazy? 🤔🫣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
