Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. American artist Eric N. Mack wears a Washi-paper yarn gold brocade opera coat, produced with heritage Kyoto textile makers Hosoo and lined with the artists own fabrics. Bespoke tailoring is crafted from flecked black and white wool, with a grey silk lapel and satin waistband trouser. Pony hair opera shoes with crystal buckles are produced in collaboration with Manolo Blahnik. Wales Bonner is proud to present its first iterations of Fine Jewelry as part of the bespoke program for the Met Gala 2025. These first iterations of Wales Bonner Fine Jewelry were produced in partnership with lab-grown diamond company SNOW Diamonds and include emerald-cut stones in garnet, white, and amber. The collection also features natural materials like freshwater pearls and sea shells, echoing spiritual adornment. The Fine Jewelry presented at the Met Gala will be available for viewing and purchase enquiries online and at Dover Street Market New York until May 13th, 2025 and Dover Street London from May 15th to June 1st.

It has been a true honour to serve on the host committee of this year’s MET Gala - Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. As a student over a decade ago, it was the writing of Monica L. Miller that helped inform my thesis around black style. It is a full circle moment to see Monica’s book - Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity - realized as an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and to dress Monica herself for this momentous occasion. I wish to sincerely thank co-chair @lewishamilton for believing in me and trusting in my vision. Lewis has long been a champion of my work and it has been a great privilege to work together along with @ericjmcneal on a look that pays tribute to a proud diasporic lineage. I want to thank everyone we had the honour of dressing for our first Met, for representing the expansiveness of Wales Bonner so beautifully and eloquently @tylersphotos @fkatwigs @jeffgoldblum @omar.apollo @ernatmack Monica L. From the moment I heard the theme of this year’s Met Gala, I knew I wanted to work with Grace @walesbonner. This look has taken months of research and development. Every detail has been deeply considered—there’s a lot of emotion and meaning woven into this. This is more than a suit, this is ancestral history. Stylish, spiritual, and sharp. Thank you, Grace.
