If you’re wondering, “Why should I track my mood?” there are a few key reasons you may find it more helpful than you realize. One, you can recognize hidden patterns. Looking back on your week might help you notice, “I didn’t get enough sleep that day, and it showed in my mood,” or “I had a really balanced diet that day, and it was one of my best mental health days this week.” Two, you can identify emotional triggers. You may start to notice what causes your mood to lift or falter, whether it’s spending time with someone who makes you laugh or working in a poorly lit room that leaves you feeling drained. Three, naming your emotions can help you better cater to them. Instead of simply labeling a day as “good” or “bad,” recognizing that you felt motivated, disappointed, overwhelmed, or content can help you better understand and manage your emotions, which can even lead to better decision-making.
