Come along with me on my 3rd Trimester inspired nesting project: sprucing up our plain dining room with @anewalldecor wallpaper & wainscoting to make it feel high end & cozyyyyyy. 🌿 The main living space in our home is open concept, and ever since we moved here, I've been dying to add texture and design elements to different nooks in our kitchen/living room/dining room areas to make such an open space feel more cozy & intentional. I've always loved the concept of a formal dining room that combined traditional wainscoting with wallpaper on the top half of the wall. And since our dining room only has those 2 walls, I figured doing this would help separate the dining room in our living space, making it feel like its own cozy room amidst the rest of the open concept home. We chose the Sweet Pea wallpaper print from @anewalldecor and I am OBSESSED with how it turned out in our space! Let me explain💛 Most of our painted murals start as real hand-painted artworks on canvas. When those paintings are scanned, every bit of texture — the brushstrokes, the paint build up, even the weave of the canvas — gets captured and printed onto the wallpaper. We have a love hate relationship with textured walls. Our main thing is honesty we’ll never tell you something works perfectly when it might not. So when it comes to wallpapering over texture, we always give full informed consent. There’s always a risk your walls won’t adhere properly (especially with unprimed or low-quality paint). That said… we recently wallpapered over top of our extremely textured storefront walls and it actually turned out amazing?! We normally recommend sanding for the longest-lasting adhesion, but this time we just went for it, using a little ✨extra glue✨ as backup. And you can hardly even tell it’s textured. It turned out so seamless and smooth, we couldn’t be happier!! Our wallpaper is super durable. It’s strong enough to hold beautifully, but not so strong that removal becomes a nightmare. And yes, this goes for our peel and stick too. So now you know it’s possible! When I tell people I own a wallpaper company, I think they picture me squeaking out some replica of their grandma’s wallpaper 😂. It’s not exactly the most glamorous sounding industry, but then I’ll catch our designs in a magazine, in a favourite celebrity’s home, or in a space we could’ve only dreamed of years ago, and it stops me in my tracks. See us pulling back those seams?? Why do we do it? Well seams can be the troublemakers in most wallpaper installs! Here’s what can happen with seams: ❗️Wallpaper shrinkage: as it dries, wallpaper shrinks slightly. If the edges don’t have enough adhesive, they pull apart and leave those tiny gaps you can’t unsee. ❗️Seam lift: humidity, steam, or sunlight weaken the edges over time. Bathrooms, kitchens, or sunny walls are especially guilty of making seams curl. ❗️Tenting: when the seam edges aren’t fully bonded, they rise up instead of laying flat, leaving a visible ridge. ❗️Edge tension: seams carry more stress than the middle of a panel. Think of it like fabric stitching, the edges need reinforcement to actually stay put. So what does extra glue do? ✨ It reinforces the weakest point of the install. ✨ It keeps seams bonded tight even under stress. ✨ It prevents curling, gapping, or ridging. ✨ And it gives you that seamless, professional finish that lasts for years (not months).
