I won’t pretend I’m the cleanest person in the world (major con if you don’t want to spend an afternoon wiping down all your glassware), but open shelves bring a lot to the table. They create balance, offset the heaviness of base cabinets, and give you the chance to actually see and enjoy your favorite pieces. Plus, they make grabbing everyday items way easier. In every project we take on, there’s always a starting point—and in this one, I got lucky. My clients already had a great sense of style and serious resourcefulness. Case in point: the ceiling made out of pallet wood. I remember walking in and seeing it for the first time and thinking, “Wait… this is actually dope—you have to finish this!” And I’m so glad they did. Incorporating wood, whether it’s on the ceiling or walls, is one of the easiest ways to add warmth, texture, and character to a space—and this project is full of it. Do you believe in love at first sight? Well, I most definitely do. I remember the first time I laid eyes on this old theater marquee sign. We were at the estate sale of our now-good friend Jim, who had saved the sign himself. He told us how he had the exact same reaction to it over 20 years ago when he rescued it from the now-demolished Grand Rivier area — that immediate feeling of “Oh wow, this is something special.” I always tend to gravitate toward things with intense patina, and this sign definitely intrigued me. But what really caught my eye was the faded green dot painted in the center. As I mentioned in the video, this piece of art hasn't been verified as the work of the legendary artist Tyree Guyton — but I really hope it is. Timeless and heirloom-worthy. 🔸 Feature No. 2: Industrial Lansing Multi-Drawer Cabinet—a rare Shaw-Walker metal file cabinet from the 1940s with serious character. 🔸 Feature No. 3: A beautifully preserved Birdseye Maple Victorian Secretary signed “Pat Feb 6, (18)77 H.H. Fun Fact: We were completely obsessed with this warehouse long before we ever lived in it—and let’s be honest, we weren’t the only ones (sorry to our equally obsessed friends). The name Mystery on Mack came from our ongoing fascination with this place that refused to be ignored—it caught our eye every single time we drove by. Someone was already living in it (cue the envy), but that just fueled the dream: “What if one day...?” Fast forward a few years, and somehow, we’re the ones calling it home. Sharing this journey with you has been surreal, and we’re beyond grateful to live in this magical space. A little bit of a surreal moment happening because our landscaping project is officially underway! Super grateful to have worked with @yardzen — an online landscape design service that helped pull all our ideas together into one cohesive plan. Bulletproof Glass Isn’t Just for Liquor Stores At least, that’s what we think. Over the past few years, we’ve been pushing our designer brains to transform both common and uncommon materials into furniture. Case in point: bulletproof glass — which, to be real, is really just thick acrylic. I’ve always loved the transparency of it, but I’m even more obsessed with the way it wears and tears after years of use in liquor stores. That weathered look has a story to tell. So, we decided to build a credenza for our home out of this material because I fell in love with the idea of making my favorite objects and plants (dead or alive) look like they’re floating. Our first prototype debuted when we launched the second installment of the Party Store collection. This is now our second time (and definitely not the last) designing and building with this material. We're already itching to see what else we can create with this pretty amazing stuff. What type of bulletproof furniture should we make next?

Today, on Earth Day, we pause to reflect on what this day truly means to us. From the beginning, our mission has centered around reusing the materials that surround us. While sustainability has always been a core element, our deeper inspiration lies in honoring nature as the ultimate creative force. We’re in constant awe of her—her beauty, her power, and her inevitable ability to reclaim. The buildings we inhabit and the materials we use will one day be absorbed back into the earth, and there's a profound, humbling poetry in that. In the juxtaposition of decay and growth, especially visible in our city, we find endless inspiration. The beauty and the pain of transformation remind us of nature’s rhythm—and our role in it. When we saw this vintage glove chair, The Joe Chair, at Round Top last year our heads were spinning. It was so interesting and unexpected that we kept being gravitated to it. We had no idea if it would work in our space and honestly no plans on how to get it back from Texas! But as the saying goes if you love it, buy it! Because when shopping for vintage you never know if you will find one again. And the ones that got away are always the ones you will remember most!
