Hoppy news for conservation 🐸 San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance has been working closely with partners to conserve Panamanian golden frogs, an extremely rare species of amphibian thought to be extinct in the wild due to the deadly spread of a fungal disease called chytridiomycosis. Eight critically endangered Fijian iguanas have safely arrived at the San Diego Zoo after being rescued in Spain from illegal wildlife trafficking 🦎 The iguanas were among more than 600 reptiles intercepted by Spanish authorities in 2017 and, at the directive of the Fijian government, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance and its partners in Fiji and Spain have spent the last eight years working to bring the iguanas to San Diego. The lowdown on Labu 🦧 This 14-year-old Sumatran orangutan recently arrived from the @fresnochaffeezoo and is the newest member of the orangutan troop at the Zoo. He’s been settling in well and spending his time chilling in hammocks, munching on leafy snacks, and getting more comfortable exploring his new digs. Labu is the first adult male to enter the troop since the passing of its beloved male Satu in 2021.
